During the winter months the sun is low enough to activate the autoiris closure of the camera from about 1PM on. That is why the image may appear dark on sunny days. Try to view the elephant seals between 9am and noon Pacific Standard Time during the winter

The Año Nuevo Elephant Seal Radio Camera System was designed and constructed by Jotham Fisher-Smith M.S. This wireless, solar powered camera and weather station has been in continuous operation since April 1999. Images are saved every 10 minutes of every day for research and educational purposes. The Año Nuevo Elephant Seal Radio Cam image archive currently contains over 120,000 images. The image archive is provided as free resource for educational and research purposes.
