Read the chapter you have been assigned and meet with group members to hold a “book club” meeting (In the past my students have reserved rooms in the library).  Discuss the chapter as a group. Here are some points you need to consider.

1.      What is the point of view of the author?  Is Jared Diamond a member of the discipline, culture or community he has written about?  Is he an insider or outsider or both?  How might this perspective enhance or limit his ability to truly understand the experience or history of the people(s) he writes about?

2.      What did you learn about the origin of power, privilege, and oppression, as it now exists in the world, as a result of reading this chapter?

3.      How does this chapter support the thesis of the book?  What is the thesis of the book?!!

4.      What assumptions have you or the people in your group made in the past, that were changed as a result of reading this chapter or this book as a whole?

Prepare a group presentation that in 10-15 minutes communicates the most important learnings from your Chapter.  Lead a 10-15 minute class discussion that allows you to assess whether your fellow students understand the key points from the chapter and brings out a critical analysis of those points.

How will you be graded???

Half of your grade will come from your peers in the group...

The other half will come from Kibak based on how well and completely you answer the questions above.
