q       Collaborative writing

q       Group presentation

q       Discussion leading

Meet with group members to hold a planning meeting (In the past my students have reserved rooms in the library).  Discuss the site as a group. Here are some points you need to consider and questions you need to answer.  You will probably have to go to your site for research, and then meet again.

q       Why and how did your community organization get started?  What issues created a need for your organization?  What is its present mission?

q       Who were the early leaders?  Why were they motivated to form the organization?

q       Describe the community served by your site.  What are its assets and challenges?

q       What kinds of individuals are served by your site?  Why?

q       Where does the organization get its funding?

q       What kind of people work there?

q       Do you think they are effective?

q       Do you think they need help?

q       How were you treated?

q       What was your social position relative to the people you served?

q       How did that affect your ability to form relationships at the site?

q       Did it seem that there was a good match between community needs and organizational services?

q       Why did you choose this site for your service learning experience and do you think you made a good choice.  Would you rather have gone somewhere else to achieve the learning outcome of establishing relationships with people unlike yourself?

q       If you were working in that organization, what changes would you make?

q       Do you think your organization is solving the problems that it set out to solve?

Prepare a group presentation that in 10-15 minutes communicates the most important learnings from your site.  Lead a 10-15 minute class discussion that allows you to assess whether your fellow students understand the organization you worked with and brings out a critical analysis of that organization.

How will you be graded???

Half of your grade will come from your peers in the group...

The other half will come from Kibak based on how well and completely you answer the questions above.
