All of the resources referred to in this assignment can be found on the ESSP 241 Links page.

Phytochrome A is also known as "PHYA" by geneticists.

The small subunit of Rubisco is sometimes known as "Rubisco SSU" by geneticists.
The Large subunit of Rubisco is sometimes known as "Rubisco LSU" by geneticists.
The proton pumping Pyrophosphatase is also known as the "H(+)-Pyrophosphatase."

If we look for a Rubisco Sequence from a pine tree we could search Nucleotide for "Pinus" "rubisco" "complete" and we would get a list of many files. You could pick Pinus taeda because it has a complete sequence of the large subunit.

Scrolling further down you get to the DNA (nucleotide) sequence which starts with "atg" and above that the "translation" which is the protein sequence coded by the DNA. For example, "atg" codes for mRNA "aug" which in turn codes for the amino acid "methionine" whose three-letter code is "Met" and whose single-letter code is "M"

The "translation" is what you want for aligning the sequences using Microsoft WORD and courier font.

Cut and paste the translation into your WORD document and set it up as portrayed on the assignment sheet.

It should look something like this right after you paste it...
