BIO 310L - Setting Up Student Websites on Home Server

 

 

 

For this course you will be setting up your own website to display project results. I will provide instruction for building these websites using very basic tools. You are free to use your own tools at your own risk :-)

Open SSH - Secure File Transfer Client and enter "home.csumb.edu" as the Host and your firstclass account name under User Name. The password should be your multipurpose password.

When you are logged in the "Remote" box on the right should look like the one below:

     
 
     

Navigate to the "Campus" folder and create a new folder called "310" as indicated below:

(Files in the Campus folder can only be seen from campus machines. )

     
 
     

 

We will create our simple HTML files (web pages) using Notepad:
 

 
     
The first and very important step is to save your notepad file in the correct place with the correct name and type.  
     
 
     

 

Create an index file exactly as the one below:

 
     
     

 

When you are done... transfer the file to your website like this:
