| Because these machines are refreshed locally each night we will use a network drive to store our files. These files are only stored for a few months, each semester the drive is wiped clean. Create a folder for yourself with your name | ||
| Always log the previous user off and log in yourself as "teach" on the OCEAN domain using the password given in class. | ||
| Start by opening My Documents in the upper left hand corner of your screen. If you have logged in as "teach" you will see a folder called "2005." | ||
Under "2005" create a folder named after you. |
Choose "File--->New--->Folder" and create a folder with your name. Inside that folder, create four other folders called:

Because Moss Landing Marine Labs library shares funding with MBARI we have access to a fabulous set of online scientific journals you won't find very many other places. If you go to PubMed and search a topic, you will be able to get a PDF version of most of the articles listed... |

As you go through the exercises, save your files in the
appropriate folder and we will burn a cd of your name folder at the
end
of the course. REMEMBER, each time you want to save something choose "Save
As" and navigate to your folder by selecting "My Documentsr"
---> "2005" --->
"YourName" ---> appropriate folder. Hint: A good general rule for naming files is to not use spaces or other strange characters. Filenames created with spaces on one system may not be recognized on other systems (such as your school or home computer)! |
