Harvester Ants - Pogonomyrmex subnitidus
Predators

Several kinds of spider prey on ants including jumping spiders. This capture was noticed right on campus near Building 46, when a harvester ant appeared to be stuck head-first to a rock. Upon closer inspection one could see the tiny spider glued at one end with a bit of silk and having the fangs deeply embedded in the much larger Pogonomyrmex.

This movie (446 Kb) provides a side view.

This movie (465 Kb) illustrates the power of silk.
